Module: »Macromolecular Colloquium Freiburg - MAKRO 2024« (M065)
The Freiburg Macromolecular Colloquium is one of the most recognized polymer conferences in Germany, established in 1953 by the Nobel Prize Laureate Hermann Staudinger. It is oldest polymer science conference series in the world and has been running for 70 years on an annually basis with several hundred participating attendees from academia and industry. The advanced module M065 in the Elite Study Program Macromolecular Science consists of three elements: (i) a seminar with students’ contributions to introduce speakers of the colloquium (ii) the attendance of the Conference „MAKRO 2024” and (iii) a discussion of the conference posters.

The teaching module "From research to publication - scientific writing" serves to provide advice and training in the preparation and publication of scientific papers.


Module: »Future Trends in Polymer Science« (M064)
The Advanced Module M053 "Future Trends in Polymer Science" consists of three parts: (i) a seminar to prepare for the symposium, (ii) participation in the conference "Bayreuth Polymer Symposium" (iii) and participation in the "Meet the Speakers" session, where students have the opportunity to get in direct contact with the speakers.

Students are free to choose several topics pertaining to current research in the field of macromolecular science. The topics are offered by the participating departments and faculties, i.e. chemistry, biochemistry, polymer and colloid chemistry, physics, biophysics, materials engineering and biology.

Module: »Meet the Industry at K 2022« (M062)
“K” is the world's No.1 trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry and, therefore, the globally leading business platform. A major goal is for industry and research from all over the world to present pioneering innovations and developments as well as visionary impulses. The module consists of 3 parts: (i) Introduction to the K and preparation of the visit, (ii) Visit of the K and (iii) Seminar by the participants of selected companies.

Module: »101 Years of Macromolecular Chemistry« (M059)
The field of macromolecular science dates back to the pioneering work of Hermann Staudinger in the early 1920s, and last year macromolecular science celebrated its 100th anniversary. This advanced module consists of three elements: (i) a seminar with students’ contributions, (ii) the online conference 101 Years Macromolecular Chemistry and (iii) a visit of the Key Lab Facilities of the Bavarian Polymer Institute.

The Advanced Module M055 "Bioinspired Materials & Biofabrication" is a conference module and consists of three sub-events: (i) a seminar to prepare for the symposium, (ii) participation in the conference "Bioinspired Materials" at Kloster Irsee (iii) and participation in the "Meet the International Speakers" session, where students have the opportunity to get in direct contact with the speakers.

Module: »Innovative polymers for nanomedicine« (M052)
"Innovative polymers for nanomedicine" is a conference module in SS 2019 within the Elite Study Program “Macromolecular Science”. The module cover aspects in life science, chemistry and physics of polymer-drug conjugates to nanoparticulate systems encapsulating the active drugs. The general aim of nanomedicine is an improvement of efficacy compared to conventional treatments, which often suffer from systemic side effects or fast excretion of the drugs.

Module: »German-Russian Travelling Seminar« (M051)
The 9th “German-Russian Travelling Seminar” is a summer school module in SS 2019 within the Elite Study Program “Macromolecular Science”. The Travelling Seminar is a series of German-Russian summers schools, alternatingly taking part in Russia and Germany/Europe, along the topical outline of nanoparticles, scattering methods and large-scale research facilities. The module as embedded in the Elite Study Program consists of 2 parts, i.e. the participation in the summer school and a seminar afterwards.

Summer term 2018

Modul: »German-Russian Travelling Seminar« (M049)
The Travelling Seminar is a German-Russian summer school, which alternatingly is organized in Russia and Germany. About a dozen German and a dozen Russian students participate in a two-week course on the scientific topic of nanomaterials and large-scale research facilities. The seminar aims for Master students, possibly for last year Bachelors or first year PhD students.

Module: »Interdisciplinary Practical Course« (IP020)
The module provides training in different practical techniques applied at the involved research faculties. The participating departments are chemistry, biochemistry, polymer and colloid chemistry, physics, biophysics, materials engineering and biology. Detailed instructions will be made available during the course.

Module: »Beyond Bragg – Material characterization with electrons and X-rays« (M048)
This advanced module within the Elite Study Program “Macromolecular Science” is dedicated to the application and use of scattering techniques to answer current scientific questions in the field of chemistry, physics and material science. The aim of the seminar is an introduction to research possibilities at large scale research facilities. The seminar covers an introduction to the generation of brilliant X-ray beams at synchrotron radiation facilities and includes a guided tour, seminars and a live-experiment at the facility.

Module: » Recent Advances in Polymer Science« (M046)
This advanced module within the Elite Study Program “Macromolecular Science” is on "Recent Advances in Polymer Science" and covers special aspects of polymer materials and introduces the students particularly to polymer science in China. The module consists of four elements: (i) a workshop in cooperation with the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, (ii) a poster introduction and discussion by the ENB students, and (iii) participation of selected contributions by Chinese Speakers at the Bayreuth Polymer Symposium 2017 (iv) a discussion about the Zhejiang University and the research system in China.

Module: »Light harvesting processes« (M044)
Biological, chemical and physical aspects of photosynthesis, of natural and synthetic light harvesting processes and of solar cell technology are covered in the course of this module.

The Advanced Module M042 "Recent Advances in Polymer Science" consists of an workshop in cooperation with the Universität Massachusetts (UMASS Amherst), poster presentations from the ENB studens and scientific diskussions.

Module: »Management Training« (MT)
The module "Management Training - Project and intellectual property management" incorporates seminars and workshops on several aspects of personal training like soft skills, rhetoric and presentation as well as on project management including research and intellectual property and patent management.

Module: » Advances in Polymer Science« (M040)
This advanced module within the Elite Study Program “Macromolecular Science” is on "Advances in Polymer Science". The module covers Introduction to research activities by faculty members from the University of Massachusetts and from the University of Bayreuth and Scientific Contributions by PhD students (talks 25 minutes & 5 minutes discussion). All participants have to present a poster. A Laboratory visit is also included.

This advanced module within the Elite Study Program “Macromolecular Science” is on "Recent Advances in Polymer Science" and covers special aspects of polymer materials and colloids. The module consists of three elements: (i) a workshop in cooperation with the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, PRC, (ii) a poster introduction and discussion by the ENB students, and (iii) a discussion about the research system and research institutions in China.
